Garden Care, originally founded in 1966 by Bart Patrick snr, started as a team of two, maintaining private gardens and grounds. With careful management, it soon grew into a large gardening organisation, comprising a hardware shop in Brighton Road, Surbiton, with the administration offices above, and the Old Manor Yard in Manor Road South, Hinchley Wood, where the vehicles and machinery were kept for the landscape and maintenance operations. The company went on to acquire a yard in Lime Grove, New Malden, a work shop in the Electric Parade, Surbiton and a print works in Southsea Road, Kingston. In 1983 Bart decided to consolidate the business and relocate to a new site. After investigation the company secured the current premises in Old Kingston Road, Worcester Park. The Central Nursery site is a former council nursery and, at the time, was rather run down. But it meant that for the first time in 17 years everthing, apart for the printworks, could operate under the same roof. The printworks was sold off soon after moving to the current site. Garden Care became Garden Care Supplies Limited in 1987. Marc Patrick joined the company in 1986 as a gardener assistant and then a gardener driver. Five years later in 1991, having attended Merrist Wood College, Marc returned to Garden Care as Maintenance Manager. Marc held this position for two years and then progressed to Landscape Contracts Manager. Later he was appointed as a director. Bart Patrick snr. semi-retired in 2000. Marc was appointed managing director in 2003. In September 2004, to simplify the company's accounts, Garden Care Supplies Limited split into two companies and Garden Care Contracting Limited was born. This now meant that all outside contracts were achieved under this company. In early 2011 it was decided by Marc to change the name of the Garden Centre to something that was less of a mouthfull, so after doing some research on the history of the area Court Farm was chosen and Court Farm Garden Centre became the new name for Garden Care Supplies. |
