There are two main types of fencing commonly used in gardens: 1. Panel fencing. 2. Featheredge fencing. MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS:All timber should be pre-treated if it is softwood. Panel fencing:Posts: These should be set at 1.8 metre centres in 600mm of ballast and cement mix. Timber posts should be either 75mm x 75mm or, preferably, 100mm x 100mm. Concrete posts should be reinforced. Featheredge fencing:Posts: These should be set at a maximum of 2.7 metre centres in 600mm of ballast and cement mix. Timber posts should be either 75mm x 75mm or, preferably, 100mm x 100mm. Concrete posts should be reinforced. Arris rails: These are horizontal rails fixed to the posts on which to nail on the boarding. Three per bay affixed either into mortice or via galvanised arris rail brackets. Gravel board: This is a 150mm deep board that sits beneath the featheredge boards to stop water penetration and damage to the boards. There should be one per bay affixed either by nails or via brackets to the posts. Featheredge boards: Use four featheredge boards per 300mm overlapped and nailed to each arris rail. |
